The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. Approximately 75 communities from throughout the United States are selected to receive grants each year to support Big Read programs. Wichita has received Big Read grants each year since 2008. This makes our city one of the longest running Big Read communities in the nation.
Wichita’s success with Big Read programming is based upon the large group of partners that help to plan and present local Big Read activities. Your feedback about Big Read programs and your recommendations for future title selections will be used as the Wichita Public Library and its community partners develop a next Big Read application due in January 2014. Check The Big Read Title Selection List for brief summaries of the titles that are not familiar to you.
